MSJC Lecture: Biological Discoveries that Reconstruct our Understanding of Sex and Gender
Date(s) - 09/14//2017
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Western Science Center
Speaker: Dr. Nick Reeves, MSJC Biology Professor
This presentation will examine the difference between sex and gender and reveal some of the biological discoveries that have changed our thinking about these human characteristics. The simple binary, male or female, definition of human sex is evolving as scientists uncover additional biological factors that blur the boundaries between these two basic categories. Additionally, the gender of a person is independent of a person’s sex and does not necessarily align with the sex that an individual is assigned at birth. The interplay between our sex and gender affects how we perceive ourselves and express our identity.
