Make It A Day

The Western Science Center is offering a supervised lunchtime for campers signed up for both morning and afternoon camps in the same week session. Supervised lunchtime is $2 each per camper, per day. Camper must bring their own lunch.

Lunchtime: 12:00pm – 12:30pm

Registration for the supervised lunchtime program is required at least two weeks Before start of camp!!

WSC Member $85.00 Non-Member $95.00 Material Fees apply for some camps and are due at time of registration.

The Western Science Center is an independent 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and depends on your generous support and donations to bring high quality programs and exhibits to the region.

Our summer camps are designed to be fun, hands-on, and educational. Our instructors, from Hemet Unified School District and Mt. San Jacinto College, along with our museum staff have many years experience teaching in their field, and are excited to share their knowledge in an entertaining and informative manner.

DNA Biology Lab

(Entering grades 7-12)

Instructor: Nick Reeves

This camp will explore the structure
and function of DNA through hands-on experimentation culminating in the transformation of a normal bacteria strain into a glowing genetically modifies bacterial strain.

Forensics: The Dead Do Tell Tales

(Entering grades 8-12)

Instructor: Erik Ozolins

Do you enjoy watching shows like Bones or CSI? Are you curious about how the characters on these shows are able to tell so much from a skeleton? Learn how forensic anthropologists can determine information such as age, sex, and race from human bones. See what they look for to determine if trauma or disease could have been involved in causing death.

Excavate: Artifacts!

(Entering grades 6-11)

Instructor: Darla Abigt

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a real Indiana Jones? Get your hands dirty learning field techniques, procedures
and ethics of archaeology using our Simulated Dig Site and lab. Campers will map, excavate and research their own finds! What will the artifacts you find tell us about the past?

$5 material fee per camper applies.

Excavate: Fossils!

(Entering grades 6-11)

Instructor: Darla Abigt

What animals once roamed the earth? Learn field techniques, procedures and ethics of Paleontology and be ready to get dirty while excavating at our Simulated Dig Site and lab. What story will the fossils tell you?

$5 material fee per camper applies.

Super Science Lab

(Entering grades 3-6)

Instructor: Margaret Ozolins

Discover the fun of science this summer! Join us for 5 days of hands-on activities. Campers will explore the different fields of science from Astronomy to Zoology!

$10 material fee per camper applies.

Robotics!

(Entering grades 3-5)

Instructor: Greg Fuller

Wondering about robots? Jump in with our camp using the LEGO NXT robot kits and LEGO MINDSTORM program. This introductory camp will get you started into the fascinating world of robots.

Time Traveler’s Camp

(Entering grades 3-6)

Instructor: Margaret Ozolins

Go back in time to explore different cultures of the past, from Ancient Egypt to Prehistoric North America. Learn about these past cultures through the artifacts that they leave behind while playing games and making your own artifact.
$10 material fee per camper applies.

Ooze and Gooze: Messy Camp

(Entering grades 4-6)

Instructor: Krystle Sibole

Be prepared to get messy while having fun creating and learning. Kids will have messy fun papermaking, splatter painting, goo growing and soap expanding.

$10 material fee per camper applies.

Jr. Scientist Lab

(Entering grades 1-3)

Instructor: Margaret Ozolins

Explore the fun of science through hand-on activities in our museum lab. Our Jr. Scientists will
create and invent while learning about the tools and methods scientists use. From Microscopes to Meteors, this camp has it all!

$5 material fee per camper applies.

Art and Nature Camp

(Entering grades 1-3)

Explore the nature of our world with art projects! Be creative with fun and engaging arts and crafts as you explore our natural world and the beauty within it!

Snack Camp

(Entering grades 1-3)

Instructor: Krystle Sibole

With this camp you will never look at snack foods the same way again. Through a series of hands-on activities campers will explore architecture, physics, art and geology using their favorite snack foods!
